Sep. 2nd, 2010 07:24 pmMan, where do you get lox in this city? All I want is something high in sodium, soporific, ultra-filling, and reminiscent of dinners with my grandparents. I have (gross but servicable) bagels, cream cheese, and capers! I just need lox. I'm suffering from smoked salmon withdrawal or something.
Tomorrow I think I'm going to the Bagel and seeing if they sell "ethnic"/Jewish groceries as well as being a restaurant, because I'd really appreciate having a reliable place to find lox, and also non-gross bagels. I don't think I've ever been to an actual Jewish deli that didn't sell that stuff, except for the one in Vegas, which I'm pretty sure doesn't count.
Oh my god I really want kreplach soup. Or blintzes. Oh my god blintzes. I'd fight monsters for a blintz right now. Like, multiple kinds of monsters at once, even.
I think this is basically the only reason I'd trade Chicago in for New York. That, and the Met has a better Egyptian section. But if we're going to go with whose museums I would most want to spend the rest of my life in, London kind of beats everyone, so really, between Chicago and New York, it comes down to the quality and profusion of the delis.
On the other hand, I do feel really... newly free, I guess? Like, a week ago I would have been like "loool, I don't have the energy to walk a mile out of my way to have dinner alone at a restaurant, and buy special groceries there!" Have texted Katie to see if she's free, but for some reason I'm not really feeling any of the Deep Dread I usually have for eating alone -- in public! -- so it's not tragic if she can't; I'll just be a Lone Diner with a Kindle.
