(no subject)

So I'm reading Twilight and man, I have never wanted a book to be over so quickly. Especially since I started it yesterday and I'm almost done. How can such a fast read feel so long and boring? On the other hand, according to the wankas, this is when the plot finally shows up. (The non-romance plot, I mean.) The prose isn't extraordinarily bad, it's just the characterization and lack of anything happening that drives me a little crazy. Also, the dumb vampire superpowers are... dumb. I mean, I could kind of imagine them written well, because they definitely give the impression of really alien vampires, but in Twilight they're kind of just written as Bella having a deluxe boyfriend with special features and add-ons. Boyfriends: not browsers, cars, or DVDs.

And Bella's dad Charlie is still a unicorn in my head.

On the other hand, yay, I'm writing! I have been hit with two new characters who probably want to be part of plot, but I'm trying not to worry about what's going to happen to them. (I have also given myself permission to kill them off if that seems like it might happen. On the one hand, I just got into this one character's head so I'd feel horrible killing her, but on the other it's kind of a relief to have someone I can kill off as I'm frantically trying to avert a canon character's untimely death.)
